Cataract Surgery
When cataracts reach the stage where they are seriously decreasing an individual’s vision, cataract surgery is required. In this common procedure, the doctor removes the natural lens in the patient’s eye and replaces it with a permanent lens implant based on the patient’s prescription for the other eye and unique axial length and corneal curvature of the operative eye.
Cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and generally does not require a stitch. Prior to surgery, the patient undergoes a history and physical and EKG. Eyedrops are required for the 4 week recovery period.
